Library Journal Review
Pacovsk is best known for her work as a children's book illustrator-she won the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1992 and has published more than 40 such books. Her latest creation blurs the line between adult and child readers. Nearly wordless and expanding almost 20 feet with an accordion fold, the book exhibits the unique graphic visual language that has made Pacovsk such a successful illustrator and visual artist. Primary colors, elemental shapes, and abstracted forms join playful lines, cutouts, and pop-ups in a visual and tactile bombardment that is both inviting and a bit manic. Pacovsk 's exploration of shape, texture, and color in book form is admirable, but this ultimately suffers from a lack of identity-it's not quite an art book and not quite what you expect of a standard children's book either. Best suited for children, though libraries will have to decide for themselves if they have a place for such a work.-Kraig Binkowski, Yale Ctr. for British Art, New Haven, CT (c) Copyright 2010.
