Library Journal Review

This sleek and elegant work epitomizes Hebey's collection extraordinaire of domestic appliances and gadgets that permeate popular culture and our daily lives. In an introduction that is both autobiographical and historical, Hebey (A Bachelor's Guide) summarizes his lifelong pursuit of these objects and icons in an extremely personal dialog with the reader. The remainder of the volume is devoted to simple and elegant photographs by Fillioux (Elle D?cor and Vogue) of more than 300 items from Hebey's collection, ranging from kettles and blenders to fans and vacuum cleaners, divided into three categories: "Drinking & Eating," "Heating & Cooling," and "Washing & Cleaning." On the closing pages are thumbnail photographs and descriptions of each item from the main categories. This specialized catalog is recommended for libraries focusing on decorative arts and design.-Stephen Allan Patrick, East Tennessee State Univ. Lib., Johnson City (c) Copyright 2010.
