MA dissertation : Interactive Digital Media
This dissertation sets out to answer the following question: In approaches to stigmergic systems through rule-based behaviour in digital media, what role does a singularity play in the development of simple social systems? The study starts by discussing the definition of singularity in two and three dimensional forms. Then it covers a dynamic environment using the city as a metaphor and how it captures the experience and information from each singularity, and sharing that experience with the group. An overview of swarm intelligence theories provides an insight into the self-organisation and collective behaviour in social insects. A discussing about using collective performance can be used for problem solving and developing the form of tactical augmentation to achieve different goals. Furthermore, it will look at the environment, as an electronic space and how this has been representational of the social construction in real-world environments. But the most important issue covered will be of how within the electronic space; exploration of the potential for the amplification of human behaviour takes place through a networked system?
