Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

This book captures the new mood - a return to a preference for the unique and the handmade. Design expert Olivier Dupon has sourced the cream of the contemporary design world from all over Europe, Australia and the United States, profiling 75 artisans who use craft techniques, rather than mass-production methods, to create stylish, whimsical, covetable objects. Hundreds of colour photographs feature a huge variety of crafts, including art, ceramics, furniture, glasswork, jewelry, lighting, metalwork, papercraft, textiles and woodwork.

Complete with a directory of products, and Dupon's personal recommendations for inspiring shops and websites to visit, this is the perfect resource for discovering unique and beautiful objects made by new, talented artisans from all around the world.

Library Journal Review

As handmade objects gain popularity in home design and fashion circles, the bloggers documenting the trend are increasingly turning to print. This title by art and design blogger Dupon (dossier37.tumblr.com) joins the likes of Grace Bonney's Design*Sponge at Home. He profiles 75 international artisans who embody contemporary aesthetics and modern craftsmanship. While the conversational essays that describe the studio practices of each artisan are enlightening, the stylish annotated photographs are the book's main attraction. The profiles are followed by a comprehensive illustrated directory organized by material type and object functionality. The represented artisans work with materials including textiles, ceramics, wood, paper, metal, and mixed media. Many are environmentally conscious and have created innovative ways to reclaim found objects and recycle scraps of material to make truly one-of-a-kind items. A list of websites for each artist and a short list of recommended shops make this a comprehensive resource. VERDICT Readers interested in the latest home design trends and alternative fashion will be inspired as they browse though this picture-perfect book.-Shannon Marie Robinson, Univ. of the Arts Libs., Philadelphia (c) Copyright 2012.
