Library Journal Review

In this stunning visual montage Lobenthal dazzles us with his kaleidoscopic look at revolutionary styles of the Sixties that have forever changed the way we wear and view fashion. Part documentary, part nostalgia, this volume places fashion within the context of the decade's cultural, political, and social events, detailing the mod, psychedelic, bohemian, and counterculture phases. Focusing on London, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, it offers inside glimpses of ``in'' boutiques like Biba, Holly's Harp, and Paraphernalia, as well as the new fashion districts of Carnaby Street and King's Road. It also follows the radical emancipation of such notable designers as Cardin, Gernreich, Johnson, Khanh, Quant, and Rabanne and delights us with photographic layouts by Avedon, Claxton, Newton, and others, featuring some of the Sixties' best-known models. Chapters on the beautiful people, the media, and rock and pop are included. Enthusiastically recommended.-- Stephen Allan Patrick, East Tennessee State Univ. Lib., Johnson City (c) Copyright 2010.
