Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

The Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate for 2002, Australian architect Glenn Murcutt has created an oeuvre that is remarkable consistent, unusual in character, and yet curiously familiar. His buildings, principally residential, are a harmonious blend of modernist sensibility, local craftsmanship, indigenous structures, and respect for nature. Murcutt established his one-man studio in Sydney in 1969 and even today - with few exceptions - he practises alone.

Library Journal Review

Australia's winner of the 2002 Pritzker Architectural Prize and foremost advocate of sustainable and site-sensitive building, Glenn Murcutt has created an original Australian architecture, marked by the character of the outback landscape. Two short but insightful essays by Fromonot (Sydney: History of Landscape) open the volume. "Development of an Architecture" traces the influence not only of Mies, Craig Ellwood, Pierre Chareau, and Charles and Ray Eames but also of the indigenous dwellings of Australia, while "Critical Perspectives" examines in informative detail how Murcutt develops plans in relation to site, considering not only sun orientation but also views. The core of the book, however, is a chapter on each of the architect's built designs, comprising an informative verbal analysis, expertly photographed exterior and interior views, and a generous number of plans, sections, and elevations. This volume, by virtue of its graphic quality and the concise but cogent descriptions provided by the author, eclipses the recently published Glenn Murcutt: A Singular Architectural Practice. Libraries concerned with currency will want to acquire this volume even if they already own the 1995 edition, especially since some of Murcutt's most significant contributions to the field of sustainable design have occurred since 1995.-Paul Glassman, Hoftra Univ.
