CHOICE Review
Thompson is one of the acknowledged masters of graphic design in the second half of this century. This book is the first full-length exposition of his work. Covering his major contributions to the formation of design after WW II through his experimentation with typography and design, this volume is as elegant and delightful as Thompson's own work. Reproduction and paper quality are exceptional, as is the recording of Thompson's career both visually and verbally. The graphic statements are among the most exciting to be found in the last four decades. Thompson's work in incorporating modern art into modern design, his efforts to raise standards im US postage stamp design, and his enjoyment of typographic play are among the subjects that are almost lovingly explained. As a coherent whole, the book is an example of what such a book can and should be: a compendium, a resume, of an entire career. That Bradbury Thompson is the subject would warrant a purchase for every college library, but this book is worth buying on its own merits as well. An exciting, stunning example of the best in contemporary books that should be included in every college collection, this is one of those rare volumes that every designer, and every design student, should read. -R. M. Labuz, Mohawk Valley Community CollegeThere are no comments on this title.
