CHOICE Review
This combined English-Australian-US effort is an excellent update on most of the newer elements of "screen" technology: film (IMAX/computers and film), television (high definition), multimedia (interactive digital video/computer connections), interactive games, and three stimulating chapters on virtual reality and cyberspace. The individual essays (ten counting the introductory one) vary from dauntingly technical (high definition TV) to easily understood (cyberspace). All are informative and appear to be completely current. What is especially refreshing is the attempt of each writer to set the technical developments in context as to their potential effect on society. This aspect of the study needs further development, but at least a start has been made. Rarely has a book this technically oriented so fired this reviewer's imagination. Although not for the casual general reader, the book would appeal to those who seek information about the cutting edge of this field. It would make a strong addition to faculty and graduate research collections. R. E. Sutton; American UniversityThere are no comments on this title.
