This is the first volume of an intended annual, patterned on the editor's Euro pean Photography , and intended to provide ``some of the answers to some of the perennial questions posed about photography and art.'' Nevertheless the book's purpose is unclear. The nine categories (which include not only pub lished and commissioned work for ad vertising, books, TV, and film, but un published photos by professionals, students, and artists) allow for the in clusion of everyone's work. Applicants paid a fee to be considered, and win ners paid $40 for each image published. For those seeking assignments, it is a useful self-promotional outlet. A com plete list of names and addresses of photographers, editors, publishers, et al. mentioned is included. The photo graphs are highly interesting and beau tifully reproduced.
