CHOICE Review
A collective work honoring the centenary of Mallet-Stevens's birth and the first book in English on his work. He was considered by many to have been one of the more controversial architects of the modern movement, and along with Le Corbusier, probably one of the most influential figures in French 20th-century architecture. The volume contains a formal analysis of the most important projects, discusses the influence of Joseff Hoffman, and Mallet-Stevens's fascination with the Secessionist style. There is a chronological biography of his important dates, projects, activities, and related historical influences, and a section of reminiscences. Editor Pinchon has written many articles on 19th-century and 20th-century architecture and directed an exhibition of the works of Rob. Mallet-Stevens. Blessed with more than 150 illustrations, mostly black-and-white photographs and drawings, with a sprinkling in color, this is definitely a book for those interested in the influences and designs of the modern movement, other than the Bauhaus, in Western Europe.
