Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:
The Japanese word sonomama means "in a natural state" or "just as you are." To create this book, Taishi Hirokawa, the internationally-renowned photographer, traveled throughout the Japanese countryside to photograph ordinary people in the creations of some of the world's top fashion designers: shopkeepers, fishermen, schoolchildren, and farmers, modeling bold, stylish outfits by Bigi, Issey Miyake, and Comme des Garcons. This is the opposite of typical fashion photography, resulting in dramatic duotone images that strip away the artifice and the image-creating power of the clothing and draw attention to the people themselves.
