CHOICE Review

Edwards, author of Victorian Furniture: Technology and Design (CH, Mar'94) explores the materials and techniques employed by the industry, and the pattern of consumption. He states that sales have been influenced in this century not only by technological advances and design but also by the two World Wars, metallurgy, suburbia, and department stores. Chapters take up such topics as materials, technology and production, the furniture industry, and distributions. Each chapter has a three- or four-page list of sources. The 40 black-and-white illustrations are fair. The author's investigations are most thorough and the prose is clear.
