Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Shake up your wardrobe! Create 19 unique fashion forward garments with simple sewing techniques.

Graphic designer turned fashion designer Natsuno Hiraiwa returns with patterns and instructions for 19 innovative women's garments and accessories in classic minimalist Japanese style.

Many of her signature vests, collars, and shrugs are cut from a single flat piece of cloth, then ingeniously draped and fastened around the body. Other pieces are artfully twisted and folded like origami, giving a unique shape to the resulting blouses, tops, and skirts. All her designs create the striking silhouettes that epitomize her fashion collections and result in one-of-a-kind garments suitable for all ages.

These pieces are uniquely constructed in a Japanese style but modified for the more Western figure with the pattern grading and sizing adjusted accordingly.

Sewists will be fascinated by the novel minimalism of Shape Shape 2 .

Please ask at the library desk for the accompanying full-scale patterns.

Library Journal Review

Interweave's latest Japanese translation is this follow-up to 2012's Shape Shape, which continues Hiraiwa's focus on modern, minimalist fashion. As the title implies, the focus here is on shape, whether billowy or spiral or vertical, and the garments include an A-line skirt that can be transformed into harem pants, a puff-sleeved bolero jacket, and a seamless wrap skirt that is flattering to most figures. Don't mistake "minimalist" for easy-to-sew, though-despite their simple appearance, there's a lot that goes into the creation of these garments. Two double-sided pattern sheets are included. VERDICT Minimalist fashion isn't for everyone, but this collection does feature some garments with the potential for wide appeal. Recommended for collections where other Japanese sewing books, such as those by Tomoko Nakamichi or Yoshiko Tsukiori, are popular. (c) Copyright 2013.
