CHOICE Review

As the book's subtitle suggests, this is a practical, rather than scholarly, work on an important current business practice. To begin, Sloane and the contributing authors, all experienced in open innovation, form a business context to the entrepreneurial generation of ideas through crowdsourcing methods of social networking. The authors provide in-depth diagrams or examples of entrepreneurial firms initiating innovation through prevalent open technology. They include opportunities and organizational problems, along with strategies and solutions. This book might be a helpful resource for educating future innovator or inventor millennial students on prescribed projects in an entrepreneurship and technology course. Instructors might be especially motivated to include the work as supplemental reading since it is tailored to social technological themes that may interest undergraduate students. The "Notes and References" and "Recommended Reading" sections at the end of the book will be helpful for both students and practitioners conducting further research. Sectional summaries of the various author contributions, if not an overall summary of the entire work, would have been helpful. Overall, a valuable resource for those interested in learning about 21st-century entrepreneurship methods that integrate technology into these business practices. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower- and upper-division undergraduates, faculty, and professionals/practitioners. J. P. Lawler Pace University
